I finished the Historical Fiction Reading Challenge, hosted by the Historical Tapestry blog, in November, but just now managed to upload all my links to their blog. I completed 10 books, the “Struggling with Addiction” level, and here’s what I read:
- A Trace of Smoke, Rebecca Cantrell
- A Curtain Falls, Stephanie Pintoff
- A Night of Long Knives, Rebecca Cantrell
- An Impartial Witness, Charles Todd
- Maisie Dobbs, Jacqueline Winspear
- Dandy Gilver and the Proper Treatment of Bloodstains, Catriona McPherson
- A Death in Summer, Benjamin Black
- Low Light, Stanley J. Cutler
- Acceptable Loss, Anne Perry
- A Lesson in Secrets, Jacqueline Winspear
- Peril at Somner House, Joanna Challis
And, upon further review, that’s 11 books because I posted #8 twice… so I guess I really am “struggling” with historical fiction.
As for my favorites, love love love Benjamin Black, but Jacqueline Winspear and Rebecca Cantrell are very good as well. Thanks to the bloggers at Historical Tapestry for encouraging me to read historical fiction!

Congratulations … would you like to work on the Advertising and Society Challenge? I have all the materials … he he he
Are any of these British? I love Charles Todd and I’ve “read” the Impartial Witness with my ears … I can’t recall, however, if that is an Ian Rutledge story or the nurse. I think Charles Todd has another coming out in January.
I think there is also an Elizabeth George due out in January … do you know?
Is the Anne Perry a Monk book? It doesn’t sound like a Charlotte and Pitt. Or is is one of the new things she is doing … oops…. I guess I could click on the link and see… sorry… but I’m working the above challenge.

I’ve finished the challenge too but am going to read the Cantrell book now anyway

Peggy, I’ll do Ad & Society if you do social media.
Many of these are British — Charles Todd (yes, it is a Bess Crawford); Jacqueline Winspear; Catriona McPherson; Anne Perry (it’s a Hester and Monk); and Joanna Challis. I really, really like Jacqueline Winspear and would recommend the Maisie Dobbs series over any of the other Brits.
Bernadette, I haven’t found the third Rebecca Cantrell book otherwise it would be on this list, too! I really like the view she presents of Nazi Germany from Hannah Vogel’s eyes.
